Ant Man - Movie Review

Duration: 117m
Supplied: DVD produced via RedBox

Join newly reformed criminal Scott Lang as he falls ass-first into a crazy plot to save the world. Scott accidentally gets involved in a scheme to do some corporate sabotage after he comes into contact with the Ant Man suit. Interestingly enough, it turns out his particular skill set will be useful after all. Being able to shrink down to the size of an ant, and control literal ants themselves, it can only be the start of a wacky adventure!

I have to start off by saying I had literally no intention of seeing this movie in the theaters. Ant Man was kind of silly to me so I didn't put a lot of stock in it. I also do not know much of Ant Man from the comic universe other than that he shrinks. However, I will eat at least some of my words on this subject. As it turns out, the movie was a riot.

This movie was a lot of fun all around. The supporting characters were little more than 1-note caricatures but they were likeable and fun regardless. The main cast is brilliant: Paul Rudd, whom I thought was an odd choice for this kind of movie/role, sells the hell out of this. He is just the right kind of guy to play a character who can shrink and control hordes of ants. It's so ridiculous, but it works. Oh boy does it work.

The plot in this, even the serious moments, had a light-hearted levity to it. Even at the worst moments I found myself laughing out loud. One has to suspend a bit of logic for this but that's part of the fun movies in general right? Seeing people try to shoot at a micro-sized human never got old. Why even bother?!

Conclusion
This was a lot better than I ever anticipated. With the wacky cast, the crazy plot, and the insanity of the Ant Man in general, it's a good time.

Recommendation
If you like fun, then YES! I was laughing a lot. It was just a ton of fun.
