Corpse Party - Game Review

Platform: PC
Supplied: GOG
Developer: Team GrisGris
Publisher: XSEED Games
DLC/Microtransactions: Nothing

Corpse Party is a Puzzle/Adventure/Horror game set in a grisly school. A group of friends and classmates want to make sure they remain friends forever. To do so, they decide to perform a simple friendship charm. Well, unfortunately for them, things do not go as planned and they are thrown into a hellish world of death and decay. With things like traps, ghosts, lunatics, and even starvation as obstacles, their very survival is at stake!

This is a marvelous game. I just want to say that immediately. It looks extremely cheesy based on its old RPG Maker heritage, but do not let that deceive you. If you have any kind of imagination you will be just fine. Or maybe not? At any rate, the game looks just fine and is actually pretty well made considering the developer's limitations.

The music in this is suitably creepy and exhilarating at the same time. It really captures the atmosphere and it is very memorable. For the curious, there's a ton of tracks to listen to on YouTube.

How is the story? Well, the story is pretty good. I obviously cannot say too much but if you like horror, then I definitely recommend this. There was only one thing I felt was not adequately explained but I will let it slide.

Gameplay is pretty simplistic. You walk around looking for stuff and digging up clues on how to manage your predicament. Along the way you have to solve puzzles and dodge a variety of hazards. The real meat of the game is trying to discover all of the endings. Yes, this game has multiple endings across all its 5 chapters. Some of them are kind of difficult to figure out, too. At least they were for me. However, I liked playing so much that I persevered and found literally all the endings.

There are also numerous name tags from other poor souls who were unfortunate enough to be trapped in that prison. These range from being easy to find to extremely difficult. I found all but 3 of these and had to look up where they were.

Conclusion
I loved this game. A lot. I am a huge fan of the horror genre and this was a delightful experience. Overall, including finding all the endings and such, I got in just over 17 hours of gameplay. It is absolutely worth the money even at full price($15). Some of the stuff can be absolutely disturbing and I found myself rather disgusted in some instances. I definitely commend the series creators for being as creative as they were. Some of that stuff was just completely out of the blue; which made the entire experience even better.

Recommendation
By this point you should already know the answer to this, but yes. If you like Horror, get to your nearest Steam/GOG and buy this sucker. It was such a great experience that I cannot recommend it enough. I am extremely pleased with this game.
